ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION
Environmental conservation and sustainable development are two important ingredients to social and economic development. The extent of environmental degradation in Somalia is beyond comprehension. Lack of central government coupled with lack of environmental awareness within the Somali society has worsened the situation over the last two decades.
The use of charcoal and firewood as source of energy contributes to the continuing inherent environmental degradation. Apart from being a source of energy, trees are also used as a source of raw material for construction of shelters. Lack of sanitation facilities is contributing to the poor hygiene situation in the country. Activities under this component are aimed at towards addressing environmental degradation in the project area and promote sustainable management of natural resources. The protection of human populations from effects of adverse environmental health-related risk factors is our major concern.
