DIVERSIFICATION OF INCOME SOURCES
Irrigation is an ancient practice that can provide many profitable opportunities today. The raising and selling of farm products on a commercial basis has proven to be economically successful throughout the world. However, farming and the production has been low among the Somali people for a few communities living across the country.
To supplement agriculture and livestock farming, there is need to venture into more innovative farming technology which is practicable and available to the locals. This is to encourage commercial ventures, which does not have the high cost of inputs and unpredictable weather and market conditions for crops. To utilize idle land and unemployed youth in community based commercial farming ventures that will not only encourage production of both diary and farm produce but also improve nutrition and health of the people.
COMORAD will pursue programs that are geared towards exploiting these opportunities by training the youth and women groups to develop their skills on farming and also providing them with the necessary equipment. Further, conduct entrepreneurial skills development training and provide micro- revolving grants to start businesses.
